James Spiotto currently works as the head of the Special Litigation, Bankruptcy and Workout Group. Over the years he has represented several institutions, including banks and bank groups, insurance companies, institutional investors, funds. He has also helped over 400 with troubled debt financings in over 35 states and 10 foreign countries.
In addition, James has given lectures on bankruptcy, municipal debt adjustment, and other financial topics to academic institutes, government bodies, and professional groups. James has also testified on troubled debt financing to several government bodies and even spoke to Congress about the amendments to the Bankruptcy Code in 1988, 1992, and 1995.
James has also received different awards. In 1995, he wrote an article on municipal bankruptcy, for which he received the Carlson Prize for best scholarly article. Earlier in 1992 he recieved the Municipal Industry Contribution Award, presented to him by the National Federation of Municipal Analysts.
James is the author and co-author of several treaties, including Defaulted Securities: The Prudent Indenture Trustee’s Guide and The Law of State and Local Government Debt Financing. The Bankruptcy section of Illinois Super Lawyers named him a “Super Lawyer” for the years 2007-2012.
