Kurt Pfotenhauer

CEO of American Land Title Association

Since his appointment in 2008 as chief executive officer of the American Land Title Association (ALTA), the Washington, D.C.-based national trade association for the title and real estate settlement services industry, Kurt has revitalized ALTA’s membership and advocacy in the nation’s capital. Membership for the 100-year-old association is now at a record-high of more than 3,700. Also under Kurt’s leadership, the Title Industry Political Action Committee (TIPAC) has increased its size by more than 70 percent, and over 2,000 people have been recruited into active grassroots advocacy. ALTA has also increased its coordination with state land title associations and is actively engaged with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

A veteran lobbyist and political operative, Kurt handles the title industry’s most senior contacts with the White House, U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. During his five-year tenure as senior vice president of government affairs for the Mortgage Bankers Association, he was twice named one of D.C.’s top lobbyists. Kurt has also served as chief of staff to a U.S. Senator and was a corporate lobbyist for a Fortune 100 company. He is married to Nancy Pfotenhauer and has five children.
